Family Business Courses

The following courses, developed at the University of Tulsa, are unique. They examine the specific characteristics, competitive advantages and disadvantages of a family-owned firm. They are designed for students with a background, interest or future in a family business setting.

Family-Owned Business Management (MGT 4033)
The unique personal, interpersonal, family, business, and growth issues associated with a family-owned and managed firm. Increases understanding of the family business as a dynamic entity, explores family systems and their impact on family business management, and studies important transitions and life cycles in a family business in preparation for succession and leadership development.

Family-Owned Business Law (MGT 4113)
Legal obstacles that a family business owner faces, ranging from acquiring licenses and permits, leasing property, selection and working with attorneys, patenting a product, dealing with credit and collections, and other similar issues, as they apply specifically to family businesspeople and entrepreneurs.
